Plastic injection mold manufacturing is a process used to produce large volumes of identical plastic parts. It involves melting plastic pellets and injecting the molten plastic into a mold cavity. The plastic cools and solidifies, forming a part that is then ejected from the mold.
A wide variety of plastics can be used, including polyethylene, polypropylene, ABS, and more. The type of plastic used depends on the intended use of the part, as different plastics have different properties related to strength, flexibility, and resistance to heat and chemicals.
Mold manufacturing time depends on part size and complexity, mold structure, cavity count, steel and components, surface finish, required trials and the speed of design approval. D-top Mould confirms a project-specific schedule after reviewing the part data and requirements; we do not use one fixed lead time for every mold.
Common choices include P20-class pre-hardened steel, 718 or 718H, H13-class steel, S136-class stainless steel and other project-specific grades. The selection depends on resin, part finish, corrosion risk, expected mold life, heat treatment and customer requirements. The final steel grade is confirmed in the quotation and mold specification.
Quotation, Engineering and Quality
For an initial injection mold quotation, send the available 2D or 3D part files, plastic material or resin grade, expected order or annual quantity, number of colors, surface or appearance requirements, critical dimensions, application and target schedule. If some details are not yet fixed, identify them as open items so they can be reviewed during the engineering discussion.
Cost is affected by part size and complexity, mold dimensions, steel, cavity count, runner and gate design, slides, lifters or unscrewing, tolerance and surface requirements, hot-runner or standard components, expected tool life, trials and validation. A quotation should state the assumed mold structure and included work so alternatives can be compared on the same basis.
Yes. DFM review is used to evaluate draft, wall thickness, ribs and bosses, undercuts, parting line, gate, ejection and other tooling risks. Moldflow analysis is available when required to study filling balance, weld lines, air traps, pressure, shrinkage and potential warpage. The required analysis scope is agreed for each project.
Quality control starts with reviewing the approved part data and mold specification. During manufacturing, critical steel and components are checked as required; after assembly, mold trials are used to evaluate filling, appearance, dimensions and operation. Trial samples and agreed inspection information are submitted for review, and corrections are recorded before approval. Specific validation documents are defined in the quotation.
Automotive, Two-Shot and Overseas Project Support
Yes. D-top Mould supports automotive injection mold projects for plastic components, technical housings and insert-molded parts. Resin, inserts, appearance, dimensional requirements, mold structure, trial plan and validation needs are reviewed from the customer's approved part data before tooling.
Yes. Two-shot and overmolding projects can be evaluated for compatible material combinations, including rigid and soft materials such as PC and TPE. The engineering review considers material bonding, rotation or transfer method, gate position, molding sequence and available molding equipment. Feasibility is confirmed from the actual part design.
Yes. Molds can be prepared for overseas shipment after the agreed trial and approval steps. Before shipment, D-top Mould can provide the documents agreed for the project, confirm mold identification and packing requirements, and coordinate with the customer's nominated forwarder or the agreed logistics arrangement. Incoterms and shipment scope are stated in the quotation.
Yes. After mold trials and sample approval, D-top Mould can support plastic part production, agreed secondary operations, assembly and packaging. The molding machine, material, color, inspection plan, order quantity and packaging requirements are confirmed for each production order.
